An oddball back-to-nature fable
about a Vilnius architect who gives
it all up for life in a tree house,
Lithuanian fi lmmaker Kristijonas
Vildziunas’s You Am I was selected
for the Un Certain Regard section at
Cannes last year. The forest abode
of Baron (Andrius Bialobzeskis)
is no ordinary tree house, but a
stylized, futurist marvel of glass,
which he puts together using
sophisticated alpinist equipment.
The hero’s wilderness idyll, which includes occasional visitations from a strange dream-woman,
takes a romantic turn when he discovers Dominyka (Jurga Jutaite), an attractive kindred spirit,
living nearby. But he’s also got a romantic rival in aspiring novelist Kristupas (Mykolas Vildziunas),
who may be dreaming the whole story up. “A fresh and inspiring fi lm that invites creative viewing ... Enigmatic, contemporary and slow-paced ... As dreamlike as reality can be” (I.F.F. Rotterdam).
Colour, 35mm, in English and Lithuanian with English subtitles. 87 mins.
